Gerardo Scandone

Together for Research on Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease

The loss of our father Gerardo, due to such a rare and devastating disease, prompted us to create this site. It is a place of remembrance, but also a tool of hope: we want to give voice to research and offer support to those who, like us, have experienced the drama of CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease).

In memory of Gerardo Scandone: united to defeat Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease

Gerardo Scandone, known to all as Aldo, was not just my father: he was a loving husband, a faithful friend and a tireless worker, always ready to get back into the game.
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease appeared suddenly, taking away her energy and joy for life in a month.

This site is dedicated to him and to anyone who has faced or is facing the same battle.
The fundraising goal is threefold :

  • Honoring his memory

  • Raise awareness about this rare disease

  • Support scientific research, in particular through the non-profit organization “Prion Alliance”.

Funding the study of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is not just about addressing a rare (but devastating) neurological disorder: it is about investing in an area of research that sheds light on the basic principles of neuronal degeneration and that, in turn, may provide therapeutic solutions for a wide range of more widespread neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

Support for Research

Join our fundraising campaign on Facebook: every donation will go entirely to Prion Alliance , a leader in the study of prion diseases, including CJD.

  • Simplicity: Donate in just a few clicks.

  • Impact: Share the campaign to multiply the effect.

  • Transparency: Real-time updates on collection progress.

Each contribution, of any amount, will be invaluable in funding targeted research projects and supporting laboratories engaged in the study of CJD and related pathologies.

Towards a Cure for CJD

Innovation and Technology

New ASO and CHARM therapies offer real hope against Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. ASOs block the production of the prion protein at the root, while CRISPR-based CHARM can permanently deactivate the PRNP gene. These approaches could revolutionize the treatment not only of CJD, but also of diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Support research, change the future.

The Association Recipient of the Funds:

Prion Alliance

We choose to support Prion Alliance , an international non-profit organization specializing exclusively in prion diseases, including Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

  • Targeted expertise : every resource is dedicated to the study of prions, in synergy with the best research centers in the world.

  • Courageous goal : to develop innovative therapies and, one day, a definitive cure.

  • Total transparency : constant updates and clear reporting on the use of every single euro donated.

Supporting Prion Alliance means giving concrete hope to those fighting this devastating disease and, in the long term, contributing to research on a vast number of related neurodegenerative diseases.
